An important Canadian artist that time and city forgot.Part biography and part memoir of his older daughter's remembrances of growing up in Kitsilano and Burnaby in the '60s and '70s, this book is a lively and thoughtful introduction to a B.C. artist and a Jungian who was 'ahead of his time'. It includes fourteen years of research, interviews, letters and over one hundred rare photographs. George's creative passion began at age twenty with photography during the Depression. He helped start the infamous Trail Mine Mill Union in the '30s, travelled to Mexico in the '40s, where he met Diego Rivera, and in the '50s American artist Morris Graves became an important influence. Known as the "Moon Man," George Fertig was an artist's artist, and his unique oil paintings have found no duplication in Canada. His paintings range from early landscapes, to large and powerful archetypal images, to small numinous meditations on eternity. His paintings were rarely exhibited in galleries and today are coveted in private collections.
