The consequence is that the changes occur on the outer periphery of the built up area which is becoming a hub of activities. There are many changes on the edge of the city-changes in landuse from agriculture to non-agriculture landcover from green to brown etc. This is a dominant theme for researchers. Keeping all these aspects in mind the key issues taken up were: Whether or not urban sprawl is taking place?, What are the causes of urban sprawl?, What are them consequences of urban sprawl?, What is the likely direction and magnitude of sprawl? and What needs to be done now?
