About the author

Shantanu Guha Ray has spent nearly three decades in journalism, having served both print and electronic media. Before joining the Central European News as its India Editor, he was one of the deputy editors of India Today. He also worked with Tehelka and was once a senior editor with CNN-IBN7. Earlier, he set up the news operations of ESPN Star Sports in South Asia and had been a key member of Outlook, a top Indian newsweekly. He has also been associated with Times of India, Indian Express, India Abroad and Indian Post. Through Agence France Presse, where he once freelanced, his articles have appeared in International Herald Tribune, British Broadcasting Corporation, the Drudge Report, Asian Wall Street Journal and Khaleej Times. He won a certificate of appreciation at the Global Wash awards in Stockholm in 2011. His previous awards include one from the Washington Press Club and Columbia School of Journalism in 2010 for investigations into the ill effects of asbestos. He won an award at the World Freedom of Expression Conference in Oslo in 2009, and the John Sheenan Award for business journalism at Wharton Business School in 2008. A visiting faculty at some of India’s top journalism colleges, he has published a book The Troubled Indian Newsroom.
