About the Book
In this alluring audiobook about the Hindu mythological super figure, Devdutt Pattanaik digs into ancient stories and scriptures to explore the truths about the different forms of Shiva. Compactly scripted and narrated, 7 Secrets Of Shiva (Audiobook) comes with a galore of fascinating trivia surrounding the God of destruction. Summary Of The Book Lord Shiva, along with Vishnu and Brahma, forms the trinity of Gods in Hindu mythology. Indians have been told, from time immemorial, countless tales describing his valor, peculiar appearance, boundless qualities and exceptional temper. If in some of these stories he is a handsome and romantic young man trying to win over his love using his exquisite dancing skills, in some others, he is a cold executioner ruthlessly taking lives of wrongdoers to protect his devotees. As contradicting as these roles might seem, a context for each one of them can be found stated in the many lectionaries. Picking up such a versatile character to examine, Pattanaik leaves no stone unturned in bringing forth these 7 unique representations of the deity. Apart from discussing Shiva's roles as Kala Bhairava, Shankara, and Lingeshwara, the author also inspects the characters and attributes of his sons, Ganesha and Karthikeya. The audiobook delves into each of these forms separately, and presents objective interpretations based on cultural significance and religious symbolism. Decoding the cultural framework and varying contexts, 7 Secrets Of Shiva (Audiobook) attempts to unlock the secrets in these obscure symbolic representations. Throughout the work, the author maintains a steady distinction between form and thought, and focuses on explaining the Hindu fervor for symbolic subjectivity as opposed to the western need for literal tangibility. While the content of 7 Secrets Of Shiva (Audiobook) is penned by Pattanaik, the narration of the audiobook has been done by teacher and actor, Sanjay Iyer.
