About the Book
The rural economy is characterized by low per capita income, mass poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, bad health, migration and frustration. These problems of rural economy can be solved to certain extent by the development of agriculture as majority of rural people earn their livelihood from this sector. But after the introduction of economic reforms and emergence of World Trade Organization (WTO) the sector faces multi-farious problems and new challenges of various forms. So in the changing scenario of the economy here in this book many learned economists and researchers have studied various problems and aspects of agriculture in India. They have focused on various post-reform issues pertaining to the story of distress and death of farmers, their access to institutional credit, manner of credit delivery mechanism and possible gap between the two. They have examined the impact of increasing credit on farm and farmers, found out strategies for marketing agricultural products, level of rice production during green revolution need of sustainable development of agriculture, possibilities of High Tech. Agriculture, emergence of environmental issues and suggested necessary- strategies. In their study, they have pointed out how agriculture is the pre-requisite and expedient for the development of rural areas, solving the problem of food insecurity in India and necessity of farm sector management and rural development administration for the wholesome growth of the economy.
