This book embodies a summary account of the archaeologicalexcavations carried out at Agiabir during 1998-2000 by the authors. This ancientsettlement is situated on the left bank of the Ganga in district Mirzapur ineastern Uttar Pradesh. This investigation has provided a culture sequence ofabout two thousand years ranging in date from c. 1500 BC to AD 700. This longstory of human civilization in the Mid-Ganga Valley has been divided into fiveperiods. A glance in this report will show that many hitherto unrecorded facetsof human civilization had remained undocumented so far. The book gives asynoptic view of the main results in the backdrop of the progress made in thearchaeology of the Middle Ganga Valley.
