About the Book
There are many urgent problems in arid land hydrogeology and it is these issues which are tackled in this volume on desert environments. The book stems from the UAE-Japan symposia, which provided a venue for the exchange of expertise, confronting such problems as purification, usage and management of groundwater, the assessment and protection of sustainable water resources, and soil enhancement techniques for moisture control in arid lands. The hope is that a better understanding of dryland environment, combined with innovative solutions and technologies, will contribute to the greening of desert lands.
Arid Land Hydrogeology provides material presented at the "Third Joint UAE-Japan Symposium on Sustainable GCC Environment and Water Resources," held in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi on 30 January-1 February 2006. The authors discuss hydrogeology issues such as the purification, usage, and management of groundwater; the assessment and protection of sustainable water resources; and the applications of soil enhancement techniques to control moisture levels. They describe the urgent problems faced by arid environments and discuss innovative solutions and technologies that have the potential to improve conditions in these areas.
