Fogg, a member of the prestigious Reform Club, gets into an argument with his friends over an article published in The Daily Telegraph, which claims that the opening of a new Railway section in India has made it possible to travel around the world in 80 days. On being challenged by his friends, he agrees to embark on a journey that will take him all over the world and back within 80 days, failing which he stands to lose 20,000 pounds. Accompanying him in this quest is his french valet Jean Passepartout. Their journey takes them to Egypt, where they are followed by a Scotland Yard Detective named Fix, who mistakes Fogg to be a bank robber as he matches his description. Unable to obtain a warrant in time, the detective is forced to tag along with the duo. In India, they save a young Indian woman named Aouda who is about to be sacrificed. Circumstances force them to take her along their journey as they proceed to Hong Kong. The rest of the story is about the remaining part of their exciting and colourful journey along with all the obstacles and challenges they have to face in order to win the bet.
