About the Book
This book is supported by the Whitaker Foundation which has provided the author with support for writing this book. The support comprises compensation to the university for releasing the author from teaching one course each semester, plus money to pay graduate students for proofing examples and problems. It also includes some funds to engage consultants to review examples of applications which are outside the author's own experience. This is the first book approved by the Foundation for funding.
