As ever, the repetition of the name, even spoken by myself, goaded me through all the familiar stages of memory and exasperation and sense of unbearable injury, till it reached a climax when it seemed the whole universe was not space enough for me and Larry both; and that one of us would be crowded out and suffocated: one of us had better die. And I cared about Larry sufficiently to wish I might be that one.
