About the Book
Clinical Examination of the Eye is designed for medical students, ophthalmic technique students, and even for postgraduate students in ophthalmology, who are at their learning stage of how to obtain a better history; how best to approach the patient for clinical examination; and to draw the diagnosis on that basis. This book does not to replace a textbook, yet it is expected to lay the ground for subsequent details. Over the years, it has become clear that although proper instruments and equipments go a long way for the clinical examination, nothing is more important than experience. Thus, this book is the result of the author s experience of over 30 years in the field of ophthalmology. The first section deals with the general aspects, such as history- taking and an outline of differential diagnosis. Section II highlights basic clinical examinations while Section III covers specialized ophthalmic procedures. It is assumed that the learners will have a better understanding of the clinical methods of examination of the eye as a whole and they will master the examination skills only by repeated practice. Throughout the book, the effort is made to emphasize detailed clinical examinations and common specialized procedures for important ocular ailments. While most of the methods of clinical examination have been described in a very simplified manner, the readers are requested to refer to the photographs which are used here to help the reader understand the point quickly and easily. Though it deals with very common, simple and non-sophisticated equipment and procedures it covers some of the burning topics of the day. This suggests its great need in the medical/ophthalmic community. Finally, this book will be useful as a guide manual for medical students, ophthalmic residents in training, medical officers at primary health centre and casualty, optometrists, orthoptists, as well as practising ophthalmologists. 1.
