About the Book
"The Copper Spearhead" narrates the adventures and struggles of a young engineer as he fights his way up through the hierarchy of a large mining company. It gives a great deal of information on the inner workings of this company and the incidents that led to its final demise.
The book runs the gamut of the mining experiences. It covers labor negotiations and bitter strikes, hard rock contract miners and corporate executives, deadly mine disasters and safety campaigns, good guys and the other kind, open pit and underground mines, plant shutdowns and plant start-ups, efficient operations and poor ones-in short, all the things that go into a lively career in a lively industry. It takes place in five different countries and in some very out-of-the-way places.
Many of the old underground mines have now been replaced by large-scale mining in gigantic open pits. This is the wave of the future, and the trend will continue. Much of the romance has faded-but the legends linger on.
