With the multifarious growth of social science research institutes in the country many libraries and information centers have also been established since independence. This directory provides and extensive guide to about 450 social science libraries and information centres located through out India and highlights their activities, services and structure. The main objective is to inform the users of social science information about the resources of these libraries and help them to locate and contact the right libraries of their interest without wasting time and energy. The special feature of the directory is that the information and data are authoritative and reliable as the data are collected through sending questionnaire directly to these libraries and information centres. About the Author Dr. K.G. Tyagi is working as Executive Director in Indian Council of Social Science Research. His major areas of interest are information systems and services in Social Science. Widely travelled on aademic assignments in India and abroad, Dr. K.G. Tyagi is currently the President of International committee of Social Sciences Information and Documentation, Buenos Aires and the Chairman of Asia-Pacific Information Network in Social Science, Bangkok. Dr. Tyagi has contributed many books and articles and has created many information-locating tools. His recent publications are: (i) Asia-Pacific: Security, Globalisation and Development, (ii) India in the New Asia-Pacific; both jointly with Prof. M.L. Sondhi and (iii) Assertive Democracy: Transition in Yugoslavia, in collaboration with Apratim Mukarji. Nutan Johry, M.A. M.Lib.Sc. Is working as Documentation Officer in National Social Science Documentation Centre of Indian Council of Social Science Research. Presently she is coordinating 'NASSDOC Contributing Education Programme' and 'Exchange of Literature, Documents and Data', funded by the Dutch Government. She has created many databases and contributed papers for professional publication is 'Union Catalogue of CD-ROM Databases in Social Sciences'.
