About the Book
Many valuable crops are very sustainable to disease and would have difficulty surviving in nature without human intervention. Cultivated plants are often more susceptible to disease than are their wild relatives. This is because large numbers of the same species or variety, having a uniform genetic background, are grown close together, sometimes over many thousands of square kilometres. A pathogen many spread rapidly under these conditions.
The book includes an account of the causes of diseases affecting vegetable crops and the principles underlying their control. It provides an overview of important diseases common to many vegetable crops. Casual pathogens, symptoms, source of infection, how the diseases are spred and recommended control measures are described. This book is for growers, their consultants and managers, horticulturists, plant pathologists, integrated pest management specialists, educators, students and agribusiness representatives, as well as home garderners and hobby farmers.
