Early Feminists The author examines the origins of the women's rights campaign in Britain and argues that it existed in the 1830s and 1840s, contrary to existing historiography which traces its origin to the 1850s. Gleadle demonstrates that this earlier feminist movement grew out of the radical views on women promoted by the Unitarian minister William Johnson Fox.
