This book explores whether bauxite mining will suit or harm the tribes by analyzing its impact on their livelihood and employment. The study also examines the steps taken by to improve the education and health status of the tribals in general and tribal women in particular to meet the challenges of the globaiization process. The book is divided into nine chapters. The first four chapters create the background for the study by describing the process of globaiization and its impact on tribal people and tribal women in particular, the programmes undertaken by the Central and State Governments during various five year plans, the fourth chapter explains the socio-economic profile of tribals in Visakhapatnam district. Fifth chapter explains the methodology adopted for the study. Sixth chapter analyses the livelihood pattern of the households under study area; the bauxite mining areas in Visakhapatnam district. The seventh and eighth chapters are core chapters. The seventh chapter evaluates the implementation process of the education and health programmes implemented in the area. Besides, it also evaluates the implementation process of the bauxite mining in the agency area of Visakhapatnam. The eighth chapter evaluates the impact of education, health and bauxite mining programmes on the lives of tribal people in the context of globaiization using performance criteria. The Ninth chapter summarizes the conclusions and suggests the alternatives.
