About the Book
Howzzat!! centres on a cricket scandal in the United Islands, an archipelago of eight islands in the Indian Ocean. The novel explores match-fixing, illegal bidding for team franchises and money-laundering amid a parallel tussle between United Islands dominant ruling political party, the United Democratic Party (UDP), led by Carlotta Rossa, and the opposition of United Republic Party (URP), led by Suresh Singh,to seizecontrol of the cash-rich United Cricket League(UCL). The central characters in Howzzat!! are Sameer Shinde, the western regional head of United Island's revenue enforcement agency known as the EOD (Economic Offences Directorate), and Dinesh Kumar (DK), head of the UCL and the man Shinde is targeting in his crusade for justice. The novel traverses the various islands of United Islands and across the Indian Ocean to Mauritius as it penetrates a world of drugs and espionage. Shinde, the narrator of the story, is angling for a tour de force not mission impossible as he encounters a spectrum of people, ranging from the unsavoury to the upright, in his quest to hold DK account table. But who will be the man of the match?About the AuthorMani D'Mello has more than 24- years of journalism experience in newspapers, magazines, television and online in Mumbai, India. He is currently the City Editor of the Free Press Journal. His previous position was editor of the West Mumbai edition of The Times of India. Sanjay Pandey is a member of Indian Police Service belonging to Maharashtra cadre. Besides holding several posts of involving law and order duties in Mumbai City, Sanjay also headed the Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai Police and was with the Prime Minister's security as a member of Special Protection Group, New Delhi. Sanjay holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, USA and is a Bachelor in Technology (Computer Science) from IIT, Kanpur.
