Using a statistical perspective, this work introduces a number of practical examples from diverse forms of microscopy, medical imaging systems, remote sensing and contact prints to demonstate the different range of image analysis applications. Explains the nature of digital images and terminology use. Reference is also made to extensions of multivariate and multi-temporal images. The appendix contains useful guidance on selecting hardware/software for a specific application.
