About the Book
Originating in a course she taught on the emerging concept of non-traditional security previously, Caballero-Anthony intends to not only advance the understanding of non-traditional security issues found in many parts of the world, but, more significantly, by addressing the conceptual challenges, to contribute to the building of knowledge by mainstreaming non-traditional security as both an area of research and a field of study that can broaden security studies. With the key centers of the study of International Relations located in Europe and the US, traditional conceptualizations of security have tended to reflect the worldview and interests of the West. She cites that, in the broadest level, nontraditional conceptions of security could refer to a shift away from the state-centric, military focus of traditional paradigms. Non-traditional security includes other drivers of disorder which come from conflicts/issues related to people’s identities, histories, and resources, e.g., ethnic conflicts in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Rwanda’s genocide, and water conflicts in Darfur. The book targets undergraduate and postgraduate students of security studies, international relations, and development studies. Annotation ©2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
