About the Book
It is a commendable attempt on the part of the author to study a significant aspects of the modern history of Kashmir.
He has rationally and systematically analysed the reasons behind the formation of the Muslim Conference. He has correctly estimated the despotic and authocratic nature of the Dogra rule, the exploitation of the peasantry at the hands of the governing class, the agrarian crisis, discontent of the labour class, educational growth and intellectual awakening among the Kashmiri Muslims, the role of socio-religious reform movements, the support of Indian Muslim in general and those of Punjab is in particular as the potential factors leading to the emergence of the phenomenon embodying the Muslim Conference in Kashmir.

Muhammad Yusuf Ganai, Born on October 10, 1963, at village Audsoo in Anantnag, Kashmir, Dr. Muhammad Yusuf Ganai graduated from the Degree College Anantnag in 1986. He completed his post graduation in History from the University of Kahsmir in 1988 and joined the M.Phil programme in 1990. It was just after the submission of his M.Phil dissertation that he was appointed as lecturer in the Department of History, University of Kashmir in September 1992.
