About the Book
A Leader's Guide to Science Curriculum Topic Study provides detailed professional development designs for using the science Curriculum Topic Study (CTS) process to increase science teachers' knowledge and capacity to use research- and standards-based practice. Curriculum Topic Study is based on an NSF-funded Teacher Professional Continuum project aimed at enhancing K12 educators' understanding of how students learn science and the content that is most important to teach. Through CTS, teachers learn to engage in authentic dialogue about what is suggested in the standards and how it compares with their own curriculum and instruction.The book covers the purposes and anatomy of CTS, presents workshop designs covering the components of CTS, and includes a companion CD-ROM with numerous handouts, PowerPoint slides, and templates aligned with the key topics.
