The story describes a family's average life in the 50's and 60's and the tragedies that strike it. Author Patti Bartlett and her family share a passion for health and fitness and this allowed her to help her one remaining brother, Mark, to remarkably improve his lifestyle by donating her kidney to him. While undergoing a barrage of medical tests Patti kept a journal with the aim of informing potential donors what is involved in being a live kidney donor. Mark's ups and downs after his surgery, which culminated in a successful transplant, were also documented. The Transplant Co-ordinator at Westmead Hospital provided valuable feedback and suggestions. Patti's wish is that her story can provide a useful resource and answer some of the many questions involved in considering being a live kidney donor, and also to provide hope to those on dialysis.
