Pharmacognosy is the objective study of crude drugs from material sources, which are treated scientifically. It is the study of the physical, chemical and structural characters and use of crude drugs. This book provides detailed information on plants used as drugsin simple language, well-supported as suitable illustrations, and discusses the classification, preparation and storage of crude drugs, phytoconstituents of therapeutic value with suitable examples, drug adulteration and method of evaluation, systematic analysis of powdered drugs, different fibres, sutures and surgical dressings, and pharmaceutical products of plant and animal origin.
About The Author:
Dr. A. Roseline, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, Holy Cross College (Auto), Trichy, completed her PG degree in Botany from Holy Cross College, Trichy, and Ph.D from St. Josephs College, Trichy. She has more than 30 years of teaching UG and PG students and has published six papers in journals of repute. Her areas of interest include plant taxonomy, pharmacognosy, embryology, biotechnology and environmental science.
