About the Book
The Stabilisation and Structural Adjustment Programme(S&SAP) aims at constant reduction of fiscal deficits. The losses incurredby the State Level Public Enterprises (PLPEs), form an important component ofsuch fiscal deficits incurred by the various states. The extent of such lossesincurred by by the various state governments has turned out to be a matter ofconsiderable to policy makers. This book fills the void considerably. Privatization Of State Level Public EnterprisesIn India is based on the research study sponsored by thePlanning Commission. The study presents the estimates of financial profitabilityand losses of the SLPEs (State Level Public Enterprises) into three categories:manufacturing, commercial and commercial-cum-promotional. The study presents a normative framework to measurethe performance of the SLPEs and then to find out the deviations. The causes ofsuch deviant behaviour have been dealt at length in the present work. Thisvolume would be of immense research interest for the purpose of policy making tothe central and the various state governments. The research community involvedin studying the efficiency of use of economic resources would also find thevolume of considerable interest to them.
