The Satavahanas & the Western Kshatrapas held between them large chunks of present states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, & Karnataka for a few centuries. The period of their enlightened rule is rightly regarded as the formative phase of the history of the Indian sub-continent in general and of this region in particular.
