When the king and queen are finally blessed with a daughter, they host a celebration for all in the castle. After the good fairies make a wish for the princess, the bad fairy appears and wishes the girl will prick herself on a spinning wheel and die. Luckily, the good fairy can still make a wish, which she uses to make sure the princess won't die but will instead sleep for 100 years. And so it happens--until a prince arrives at the castle.
