Medicine, in terms of both disease pattern and therapeutic practices, shows tremendous geographical variation. Data and recommendations from different socioeconomic settings may not correctly reflect picture at home. There is no existing book devoted to the discipline of tropical hepatogastroenterology from India and this book fulfills this need. It emphasizes on medical management of hepatic and gastric diseases relevant to the tropics. The strength of this book is greater focus on practical management of gastrointestinal diseases in the tropics. It is edited by Dr BN Tandon, who is regarded as the Father of Tropical Gastroenterology in India.About the AuthorBN Tandon is the pioneer in the field of Gastroenterology in India. He has been trained at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA with specialization in Gastroenterology. Dr Tandon has been Dean and Head, Department of Gastroenterology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He is presently Chairman, Digestive Diseases Foundation. Dr Tandon has published over 225 research papers in national and international journals, authored 13 monographs, and 13 chapters in various textbooks. For his contribution to the development of medical science in India, Dr Tandon was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1986 by the President of India.
