Unlocking Literacy offers creative ideas and approaches to teaching literacy both within and beyond the Literacy Hour. The authors show how teachers, student teachers and literacy coordinators at KS 1, 2, and 3, can stimulate young readers, writers, speakers and listeners, develop the literacy skills of primary and secondary pupils of all levels of ability, and can find inspiration for answers to challenges posed by the Literacy Hour and other initiatives.

Each chapter includes practical activities on aspects of literacy derived from school-based research, to 'unlock' pupils' emerging abilities as thinkers and learners.
